'Studying
the
Bible
in context' |
Biblical
Backgrounds brings the context of the Bible to teachers, pastors,
students and lay people through local seminars. Newly created
electronic
teaching aids make this study easier and much more enjoyable than ever.
We explore the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East, meeting
the
Egyptians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Greeks and Romans. As these and
many others crossed the land of the Bible the Israelites learned
the meaning
of faith, and the lessons they learned remain relevant to our day.
The
world of the Bible - Participants gain a working knowledge of the
land by stepping into the geographical and historical world of the Bible.
The big picture becomes clear as imperial priorities are seen against
the realities of the Middle East. This larger view makes it possible
to open anywhere in the Bible and understand its 'headlines.' The
land of the Bible - Participants also discover the difficulties
which the land of the Bible presents to anyone living there. Understanding
the land's geographical position, its threatened place in the history
of nations and the challenges this land presents to individual and national
survival illuminates the teaching of the Bible.
On-going study materials - Biblical Backgrounds' seminars set
the scene for a much more serious study of the Bible and its message.
The materials used in these seminars are described in the menu to the
left. These are not only used during the seminars but also can be usefully
reviewed later as study of the Bible and its setting continues. How
to arrange a seminar in your area -
Biblical Backgrounds offers its seminars to local churches and
schools in time frames which are most convenient for participants.
A local pastor or teacher usually contacts Biblical Backgrounds
and arranges dates and related matters. Participants range from
50 to 120 and should be committed to a serious learning experience
rather than simply coming to hear a speaker. Study materials
are required, and assignments are made, but no grades are given.
