C: REGIONAL STUDY MAP 5--GALILEE AND JEZREEL VALLEY
(large
names/arrows added for this page)
As
the first of three detail maps, the Galilee and Jezreel Valley
map presents the strategic center of the Northern Arena. Site and
regional names and roads can be clearly read on the printed map.
The
famous Jezreel Valley (east of the 'hill of Megiddo/Armageddon')
can be seen in the lower center of this map. It is surrounding
by Mt. Carmel and its Shephelah (Lowland) on the west, the hills
of Samaria to the south, faulted mountains (including Mt. Gilboa)
and valleys on the east and the ridges of Lower Galilee to the
north. Upper
Galilee towers over Lower Galilee at the very top of this map.
This
busy international battlefield of the north hosted some of the
Bible's most stirring events. It was here that the great imperial
armies of Egypt, Assyria and others overran the land of the Bible,
Deborah fought the Canaanites, Gideon overcame the Midianites,
the prophets Elijah and Elisha challenged the kings and Jesus lived
and ministered.
