B: REGIONAL STUDY MAP 4--SOUTHERN/CENTRAL ARENAS
(large
names/arrows added for this page)
As
the second of two arena maps, the Southern/Central Arenas map presents
the geographical context of the Hill
Country of Judah. As such it serves as the setting for the Heartland of Judah
and Land of Benjamin and Approaches
detail maps (maps 6 and 7). Site and regional names and roads can be clearly
read on the printed map.
The
central Hill country on this map is surrounded by the Shephelah
(Lowland) and coastal plain of Philistia to the
west, the Dead Sea and high Transjordanian Plateau of Moab and Medeba Plateau
to the east, the Negev basin to
the south, and the land of Benjamin and Hill Country of Ephraim to the north.
Most
events recorded
in the Bible transpired in the regions seen on this map. These
include patriarchal sojourns,
events from the books of Joshua and Judges, the kingdoms of David and later
kings of Judah as well as many
of the events recorded in the books of the prophets.Much of Maccabean history
also can be traced on this map.
